Open Source OS and Email

This blog is dedicated to talk about the open source operative systems, I chose this topic, because, it's important to know what are the advantages and disadvantages to use an open source operative system.

There are many open source OS in present, everyday an open source OS is released to comply diferent purposes, because everybody has diferent needs like security,multimedia,programming,databases,business services and other porpuses,the most popular open source operative system are GNU/Linux, Open BSD and Open Solaris.

Can everybody run linux, bsd and solaris on any computer? we have to see the requirements to know it.

GNU/Linux

Minimum:
500mhz processor
128MB of RAM
4GB of drive space

Recommended:
1.0ghz processor
512MB of RAM
10GB of drive space

Open BSD

CPU: Intel-compatible processor, 2 GHz or better
RAM: 2 GB
Hard Disk Space:10 GB

Open Solaris

CPU: Sun UltraSPARC-based systems,
Fujitsu SPARC64 platform-based systems,
32 and 64 bit systems based on AMD, Intel and VIA x86 CPUs.
RAM: 512 MB
Hard Disk space: 2 GB

You can choose the OS that you like more, if you want to get a great performance, security and compatibility you might choose Linux, because it has a important comunity that help everyday to people with updates and bugs solutions to have the best security and stable Operative System. Open BSD is a good OS with a nice security and performance, but the comunity is not very big, so you can run it but with few updates. Solaris is very good to have oracle databases running with nice permormance, it also has excellent security, but it depends what else do you want to do in your operative system.

Advantages: to use Open Source Operative System:

-Customizability
-Freedom
-Support Options

Disadvantages:
-Don’t come with extensive support
-Might not be as user-friendly as commercial versions
-Vulnerable to malicious users
